American Models Box Car

Rusty Westermeier wrote, in his "Scale Scene" column, in the May 2006 issue of S Gaugian magazine, how he adds details to these cars. In that article he stated that he found the closest prototype match for this model to be the mid-1940s AAR (Association of American Railroads) box car, with the plan being the AAR 10'6" standard box car, as shown in the May 1993 Mainline Modeler.

Jim Hediger did a product review of the AM box car in the October 1983 of Model Railroader indicating that the model matched drawings in the 1940 Car Builders Cyclopedia, but with later doors and roof.

Note that these cars have the brake gear in mirror orientation.
