The PRR's Altoona Shops built 1,700 of these cars. The Lehigh Valley later bought 50 of them, which were identical except for the lettering. The Penn Central inherited a number of these cars.

Available with the 1930 "circle keystone" logo and with the 1940 "shadow keystone" logo. Cargo tie-downs were an option. Trivia #1: model railroad photographer and S modeler Bob Werre was the first one to buy one of these. Trivia #2: Pennsy S co-owner, Bill Lane, recalls that these cars had production issues, enough to the point where they returned all of the models produced back to the builder, and the builder subsequently sold them "direct" through eBay (through which Bill bought his models, as shown in his photos).

Identical to the PRR G26, except that they had upgraded frames, and three of the exterior posts were extended to cover down to the bottom of the fishbelly area (the latter were retrofitted to existing PRR G26 cars as they came in for repair service, so it is not a definitive method for telling them apart). There were 700 of these cars built. The Norfolk & Western G3 gondolas were built based on this car's design.
