Taken at a recent train show, a photo of the Micro Engineering booth and their crew. On the left is Dan Mastrobuono and Bill Lane, and on the right are the owners of Micro Engineering.

Micro Engineering is one of the most important companies in the model railroading industry, as they provide track components in N-, HO-, and S-scale, as well as loose rail for us to handlay our own track. The company was started as "Rail Craft Products" in 1964 and owned by Bob Rands. In 1972 Bob's son Ron joined the company. In 1984 his other son Richard joined. Richard left in 1997 and now owns Berkshire Valley Models. In 2010 Ron's daughter Donna joined the company. In 2021 the company announced their retirement and subsequent closing. In August 2022 the Dwiggins family, under the name of Warbonnet Enterprises, LLC based in Macon, Missouri, bought the entire company, and continues to operate it today.

S-scale's standard-gauge flextrack was first created by Avery "Swede" Norlin after he had bought Tomalco. Bob McCarthy, of The Supply Car, bought the standard-gauge product line from Tomalco in 2003. In 2004 Larry Morton bought the track components from Bob and started the Tomalco Track company. Since Micro Engineering didn't directly sell S-scale flextrack, Larry commissioned them to produce it for him and he maintained the ownership of the product and handled the sales. After Larry announced his retirement in 2023, Shane Lambert bought Tomalco Track. Due to ongoing health issues Shane announced the closing of his company in March 2025, but later that month he announced that the new Micro Engineering company had bought the rights to producing the S-scale flextrack product line. Micro Engineering now offers code 100, code 83, and code 70 S-scale standard-gauge flextrack.

Separately, Dan Mastrobuono, Bill Lane, and the NASG VP Brian Jackson are working on a ready-to-operate standard-gauge turnout.
